Theater at the Towers for Youth - Spring 2012 - Watts Village Theater Company

WVTC Writing and Performance Workshop Spring 2012

Watts Village Theater Company, in partnership with the Watts Towers Arts Center, will provide a 10 week (40 total hours) writing and performance workshop for youth.

A professional teaching artist and volunteer/mentors will guide youth participants, ages 13 to 18, in developing and exploring characters, writing narrative stories, dialogue, monologues and collaboratively write a play through writing exercises, improvisation techniques, and the reading of dramatic literature.

Our curriculum applies the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) content standards for theater in every lesson. The workshop will culminate with the students performing their original play.

Youth participants will be provided with writing and reading materials as well as water and light snacks. The workshop is free of charge.

We will be meeting every Wednesday from 4pm-6pm and Saturday from 10am-12pm beginning on Wednesday, February 8^th and culminating on Saturday, April 21^st.

The workshop will be held at the Charles Mingus Youth Arts Center (adjacent to Watts Towers Arts Center).

Our goal is for the participants to become self-empowered and further explore their potential as writers and performers by integrating the performing arts with their school work and their place within the community.
